Year End Verdict

Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of attending to my niece’s hair. Both of them had been hounding me to wash and deep condition since my sister had been too busy. I commenced with the younger one by detangling and once we were done, I was amazed at the results we had gotten for the past 4years since we started taking care of her hair.

Suffice to say, we spent 2hours ogling and taking pictures of this huge Afro.

She’s excited about her length now and wants to wear it out. Prepoo was done with Aubrey Organics GBP for an hour. Nowadays, it’s important her hair is braided in 10sections to make it easier to wash. Applied green tea rinse, allowed it to dry and applied Silk Dreams Shea What to each section; covered her hair with a shower cap and left it on for 2hours before rinsing out. Wrapped her hair with a cotton towel for 20minutes before sealing in sections with Giovanni Weightless Leave in & Trader Joe’s Jojoba oil.
She’s at mid-length now and the thickness and length is simply amazing.

Wash Day Chronicle

Apart from Lauren Mechelle whose hair I absolutely adore, I’ve got a hair crush on Kimberly Holden as well. She makes these fun quirky and engaging videos. If you’re thinking of trying on clip in extensions for the holidays, you should also know how to wash them as well. If you’re in the mood for a messy bun tutorial, check the videos below:

Reader’s Q & A

IMG_2332.JPG

Q: Should I use an activator when I Texlax?
A: Yes, you should. The reason why you’re texlaxing is a preference for under processed hair. To achieve results, it’s essential you divide your hair in tiny sections and coat each section with Jamaican Black Castor Oil & Vaseline. I often start with my ends then work my way towards my new growth as well, so I can get the kind of result I want. I’m usually heavy handed when applying the castor oil and Vaseline. Once you’ve coated your previously relaxed hair, over-processing won’t occur. Also ensure you apply Vaseline to your scalp.

Q: How should I apply peppermint oil to my scalp directly?
A: Applying essential oil directly to your scalp is a big no-no. Unless you’re ready to see your hair coming out in clumps, you’d better not go down this route. Essential oils are potent and moderation is the key when using it. If you’d prefer to use this oil as a potent growth aid, get an applicator bottle, pour in Jamaican Black Castor Oil / Jojoba Oil till it’s halfway. Pour in 4 caps of peppermint oil and shake the bottle. To ensure the oils blend together, keep the bottle in the darkest part of your wardrobe for a week.

I’ve been having my fill of hair porn, walking up to strangers and asking about their hair regimen. I recently learnt about the trimming regimen and I’ve booked an appointment on Wednesday with the creator of this regimen. I’m going in for a relaxer touch up, deep condition, blowdry, trim and style. It’s really insightful and I just hope Steveid allows me to record our discussions for your viewing pleasure.
Have a fun filled week ahead.

October 1 – The Movie Review

20140930-214756.jpg

Hello Ladies, how has the week been so far? Mine has been quite eventful. Over the weekend (Sunday to be precise), I attended the premiere of October 1 at Eko Hotel. The Urb and I had enough time to view all the movie props used in the movie. I fell in love with the green Mercedes Benz….it was such a cool vintage car.

The event kicked off at 7.05p.m with Olisa Adibua as the M.C for the night.

Back to the movie. It was simply fantastic in terms of the storyline and delivery by the protagonists. The movie was shot in Ilara Mokin, Ondo State and Lagos respectively. I can’t spill the beans but it’s gripping as the events unfold which finally led to a revelation of pre independence issues affecting a small community. If you’ve travelled along the South Western and Eastern parts of Nigeria, you’ll observe that Nigeria has got beautiful scenery especially within rural towns. One of my favorite past time is exploring rural villages, stopping to speak with the farmers and purchasing their produce. My favorite route used to be Gbongan – Oshogbo; Iwo – Ogbomosho and Ibadan – Abeokuta via Apata, Ibadan. It’s a fantastic experience for anyone who’s had the opportunity of touring this great country. Your perspective on a lot of things will change.

October 1 is a dark psychological thriller film written by Tunde Babalola, produced and directed by Kunle Afolayan. It stars Sadiq Daba, Kehinde Bankole, Bimbo Manuel, Kanayo O. Kanayo, Fabian Adeoye Lojede, DavidBailie, Nick Rhys, and introducing Demola Adedoyin and Deola Sagoe. The film narrates the story of Danladi Waziri (Sadiq Daba), a police officer from Northern Nigeria who is posted to a remote town of Akote in Western Nigeria to investigate the frequent female murder cases in the community and have the mystery solved before the Nigerian flag is raised on October 1, Nigeria’s Independence Day.

Just like ‘The Figurine’, this movie is a piece of art and Kunle Afolayan has raised the bar once more. My star character in the movie was ‘Afonja’ as he made us laugh with his facial expressions without really saying a lot. Learnt it’s showing at most cinema outlets within the country tomorrow. Kindly take out time to see it.

Happy Independence Day Nigeria!!!

Update on M’s Texlax

20140926-073706.jpg

If you’ve read previous post on M’s Texlax update, then you might have been wondering about her progress recently. She sent me this recent update on her progress early this month and I still remember how she squealed “I made arm pit length”. Congrats to M and consistency is the name of the game ladies.

Have a fabulous weekend!

Detangling Aid

20140924-210516.jpg

I’ve had the tangle teezer for a year now and I recently commenced usage. I bought it on http://www.asos.com and somehow, the first package got missing in transit. I had to notify them before a replacement pack was sent which I took delivery of via NIPOST. I had made this purchase before reading up on the reviews online. The reviews were not too positive and I ended up not using it until recently. The turning point was my hair…as this Texlaxed hair became thicker and longer, my Hercules Sageman rake comb was not just enough as I’ve got curly strands that tend to misbehave when left unattended.
3 weeks ago while wondering how to detangle 2.5 inches of new growth without causing breakage at the line of demarcation, the light bulb suddenly went on

20140924-211401.jpg and I decided to make use of the tangle teezer.

I commenced by dividing my hair into tiny sections and spraying liberally with ‘Mane N Tail Detangler’, proceeded to massage before combing, starting from the tips to the roots with the Sageman rake comb. To combat the tangling at the roots, I lightly applied the tension method and proceeded to comb out each kink with the Teezer. Need I say more, it did such a fantastic job that it now occupies a place of pride amongst my hair tools. Using this tool once I’ve applied Eco Styler gel on my edges is a breeze. I’m not heavy handed when using it, I apply it lightly and so far so good, no hair loss at my edges. It’s made my detangling sessions much more easier.

Last month, the team behind ‘Old Wives Tail’ reached out to me about their wide range of handmade, organic products. I was given the option of selecting the products I wanted to review. I selected the ‘Argan & Rosemary Treatment’ which is a deep conditioning treatment and one of the oils as well (can’t remember the particular one I chose).

Easy, Breezy

I have decided to switch things up by investing in Satin Pillowcases. There are days I simply can’t locate my satin bonnets and I’m so done with searching. This pair of satin pillowcases comes in various colors and practically keep my protective styles intact. I got 2pcs for N2,800 and it’s proven useful nowadays.

I’ve had fun using this comb attachment to blow dry my hair. The longest parts of wash day is waiting for your hair to air dry. Now, I really don’t have to wait that long, I simply use this comb with my dryer adjusting the setting to ‘cool shot’. To get that sleek look, I divide my hair into small sections applying Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum OR Chi Silk Infusion resulting in easy, breezy hair.
