Reader’s Q & A

Q: Should I use an activator when I Texlax?
A: Yes, you should. The reason why you’re texlaxing is a preference for under processed hair. To achieve results, it’s essential you divide your hair in tiny sections and coat each section with Jamaican Black Castor Oil & Vaseline. I often start with my ends then work my way towards my new growth as well, so I can get the kind of result I want. I’m usually heavy handed when applying the castor oil and Vaseline. Once you’ve coated your previously relaxed hair, over-processing won’t occur. Also ensure you apply Vaseline to your scalp.

Q: How should I apply peppermint oil to my scalp directly?
A: Applying essential oil directly to your scalp is a big no-no. Unless you’re ready to see your hair coming out in clumps, you’d better not go down this route. Essential oils are potent and moderation is the key when using it. If you’d prefer to use this oil as a potent growth aid, get an applicator bottle, pour in Jamaican Black Castor Oil / Jojoba Oil till it’s halfway. Pour in 4 caps of peppermint oil and shake the bottle. To ensure the oils blend together, keep the bottle in the darkest part of your wardrobe for a week.

I’ve been having my fill of hair porn, walking up to strangers and asking about their hair regimen. I recently learnt about the trimming regimen and I’ve booked an appointment on Wednesday with the creator of this regimen. I’m going in for a relaxer touch up, deep condition, blowdry, trim and style. It’s really insightful and I just hope Steveid allows me to record our discussions for your viewing pleasure.
Have a fun filled week ahead.

Regaining Hair Loss

This week has been one with positive surprises. There’s nothing that brings me more joy when I see women who’ve lost all hope regarding their hair, experience positive turnaround. A month back, I had received a phone call from a young woman who had lost her hair due to postpartum shedding. She had resorted to using weaves due to the loss she had suffered.

Initially when we met, I had not seen the status of her hair but from what she explained when we sat down to talk, it was a common occurrence anytime she had her babies. At the second consultation, I had suggested the use of essential oils and a change in her regimen to reverse her hair loss since it had been a year plus since she had her last baby and she hadn’t regained her hair.
So I took a good glance at her hair and gave her a new regimen consisting of the following:
1. No more weaves or braids henceforth.
2. Commence wigging going forward.
3. Incorporate the use of hot oil treatment weekly without fail.
4. Deep condition 2ce a month.
5. Conduct scalp massages on a daily basis using the dilution ratio.
6. Longer relaxer stretches.

I recommended the following products for her:
1. Jamaican Black Castor Oil
2. Rosemary Oil
3. Peppermint Oil
4. Hairveda Sitrinillah Deep Conditioning Masque (to tame her coarse dry hair)

I remember telling her to add 5 caps of Rosemary Oil & 4 caps of Peppermint Oil to half a bottle of Jamaican Black Castor Oil. This oil mix must be used as a hot oil treatment unfailingly each week and it was important to use it on her scalp as well at least 3-4times weekly. In order to manage her thick coarse hair, I had recommended the use of Hairveda Sitrinillah for deep conditioning twice a month. Well I’m glad she stuck to this regimen cos early this morning, she sent me a picture of what her hair looks like now after a month. In her own words “this is the first time in years, I have gone to work without resorting to the use of weaves and wigs. I couldn’t be more happier with what I have achieved over a period of 4weeks”.

1. Brewed 2 tea bags overnight & left to steep. Prepoo with Coconut Oil overnight.
2. Washed the following morning with Herbal Essence Moisturizing Shampoo in 3 sections. Proceeded to use Ion Smoothing Conditioner for 5 minutes before rinsing out.
3. Wrapped a cotton towel around my hair for 20minutes to absorb excess moisture. Sprayed my scalp and hair with green tea and allowed to dry out. Last week, I used a moisturizing deep conditioner (Hairveda Sitrinillah).
4. Today I’m using a protein deep conditioner (Aubrey Organics GBP). I usually alternate weekly between a moisturizing & protein deep conditioning treatment. Applied Aubrey in sections concentrating on my ends and entire length. The beauty of alternating weekly enables my hair to thrive and strike the right balance between protein & moisture. I’ve been able to keep breakage at bay with this method.
5. Covered my hair with a shower cap & sat under my heat cap for an hour before rinsing out. Wrapped a cotton towel for 20minutes to absorb excess moisture.
6. Sealed with Coconut Oil; Giovanni Weightless Leave-in & Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum. I was preparing to blow dry but PHCN struck and I decided to air-dry. My wash day went well with strengthened hair.
7. Went for low maintenance hair style this week. Check below:
